
HUNTINGDON, Tenn.. — The Huntingdon Fillies basketball team punched their ticket to the state tournament for the second time in the last three years and for the seventh time in school history with a 65-45 sectional win over Summertown, Saturday night at Huntingdon High School. The Fillies 28-3 are set to play Smith County at 12:45 in Murfreesboro on Wednesday.

The Fillies had an eventful week as they started the week with a region semifinal contest with Cheatham County on Monday in Waverly, winning over the Lady Cubs 57-22 and followed that with a 54-47 win over Stewart County on Wednesday to capture the region 6-2A title.

The Fillies defense took control against Summertown in the sectional with the winner advancing to the state tournament. The Fillies fell behind early at 8-3 as El-Lee Lu Mason made a pair of three-pointers but the Fillies turned up the heat and took the lead back at 11-8 and led 18-10 after one quarter. Wylie Kee, who led all scorers in the game with 31 points, scored ten in the first quarter and eight of those points came from the foul line.

The Fillies scored 18 more in the second quarter and held the Lady Eagles to 10 and led 36-20 at the half. The Fillies led after three quarters 48-33 and in the final frame, outscored the Lady Eagles 17-12 to win easily and a trip to the Glass House.
The Fillies forced 11 turnovers and recorded nine steals with their defense and were 16-24 from the foul line. Kee led the Fillies with 31, hauled down 9 rebounds and recorded seven blocks in the game. Knox Bennett reached double figures with 11, Krystin Moore 9, Ellie Wilson 8, Grier Bartholomew 3, and Emalynn Maness 3. Summertown was led by Mason with 14, Ella Busby 11, Bonner 7, T. Long 5, G. Long 5, and H. Busby 3.
The Fillies earned the region title game with their win over Cheatham County earlier in the week and were led in scoring by Wilson with 15, Kee 14, Bennett 11, Moore 9, Millie Luther 4, Grier Bartholomew 2, and Tatum Rich 2.

The Fillies had a tight game with Stewart County on Wednesday in the region title game and trailed by one midway through the final quarter but rallied down the stretch and pulled out a 54-47 win setting up the date with Summertown in the sectional. Kee led the Fillies with 25, Bennett 17, Wilson 5, Moore 3, Bartholomew 3, and Maness 1. Stewart County was led by Faith Dacus with 15 and five made three-pointers.
The Fillies will face Smith County who they lost to in November in the second game of the season in Carthage 61-56 and if the Fillies win, will face the winner of Gibson County and Gatlinburg-Pittman on Friday.
