Lady Tigers Fall to McEwen in District 12-A Semifinals

McEWEN, Tenn. — Central’s Lady Tigers fell to the McEwen Lady Warriors 60-49 in the District 12-A Semifinals Saturday at McEwen, as Laila Downs-Darden’s 37-point performance, fueled largely by a foul-heavy second quarter, proved the difference.

Downs-Darden drew 20 free throw attempts in the second quarter alone, converting 16, and added a three-pointer to account for 19 of McEwen’s 26 second-quarter points. She finished the night with 37 points, 21 of which came from the free throw line on 26 attempts.

Central was led by Emy Olds with 15 points, while Cloe Morgan added 8 and Ava Finley contributed 6. The Lady Tigers showed some life in the second half, outscoring McEwen 35-22 over the final two quarters, but couldn’t overcome the second-quarter deficit.

The Lady Tigers will face McKenzie’s Lady Rebels in the consolation game Monday at 6 p.m. at McEwen.
