History was made this past week as Huntingdon Fillies basketball standout Wylie Kee became the first basketball player at Huntingdon High School to be named as a Miss or Mr. Basketball finalist. Miss Basketball is the highest award that can be achieved by basketball players across the state of Tennessee.
Kee is among three players across the state that are being considered for the award that will be announced on March 10 at MTSU. In Class 2-AA, Kee is being considered along with Maliyah Glasper of Gatlinburg-Pittman and Kaegan Young of Cascade.
Only a freshman, Wylie is averaging 18.7 points per game currently, 8.2 rebounds per game, and 2.7 assists per game. The Fillies are 22-3 at press time and regular season champions of district 12-AA and will enter the district tournament this week as the one seed for the tournament.
This is the 41st year of the Miss or Mr. basketball awards that is given to a player in each of the six classifications of basketball across the state. Coaches and members of the media nominate players for the award, and a select committee narrows the nominations to three from which the Miss or Mr. basketball winner will be announced. The award is based on Academics and character of each finalist.
