A love story entered a new chapter outside the Carroll County Courthouse over the weekend.
While Circuit Court was in session inside the courtroom on Friday, July 18, Megan and Scott Baylor exchanged vows on the courthouse steps in a wedding ceremony.
Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler officiated the service.
Megan and Scott are both employees in the Benton County School system, and that is how they met.
“Basically, I’m the teacher who constantly broke my computer and he was the IT director who fixed it,” Megan said.
The couple have been together for two years, and got engaged last October.
They planned to have a traditional ceremony this November.
“We had a venue booked, date set, and had started sending out our save-the-dates,” Megan said. “But one night we got to talking and said we wished we could just do it. We were so excited to be married.”
After some reflection, they decided a big ceremony wasn’t what they really wanted.
“We knew we just wanted to be married and then have a celebration with our friends and family. No pressure, no bridal party, no schedule of events. Just us,” she added.
So, they made a change of plans.
The couple contacted Mayor Butler, gathered their immediate families, and chose a Friday morning in downtown Huntingdon for their ceremony.
“I grew up my whole life in Huntingdon and have always adored how beautiful our courthouse is,” Megan said. “We knew that the pillars and steps were something we wanted incorporated in our day.”
The couple’s children—Megan’s son and Scott’s two daughters—were part of the day as well.
“It was absolute perfection,” Megan said, reflecting on the moment. “Getting to have townsfolk drive by and honk and shout out congratulations out the car window was just the icing on the cake.”
The newlyweds plan to host a celebration with friends in August.
