Carroll County Home Catches Fire Twice, TBI Investigating

A Carroll County home on Clear Lake Rd. near Macedonia was destroyed after catching fire twice within seven hours. The second blaze occurred before investigators could determine the cause of the first.

Friday, July 18 at 12:38 a.m. after the first fire was extinguished.

Friday, July 18 at 7:06 a.m. 90 minutes after the second fire broke out.

Homeowner Ryan Bonar was in the process of remodeling the home.

Late Thursday night, July 17, he said he had just finished painting the hallway.

“I left to go visit my wife’s grave,” Bonar told the Carroll County Observer at the scene. “I was gone for about two hours, to give the paint time to dry. When I got home, I could see smoke.”

He tried to go inside to locate the source of the fire.

“The smoke was too thick,” he said. “So I went back out to get my water hose.”

Bonar attempted to extinguish the flames himself, but it wasn’t enough. He called 911.

Firefighters from the Carroll County Fire Department ’s Macedonia and Mixie stations responded, along with crews from the McKenzie Fire Department. They put out the fire within an hour.

Carroll County Fire Chief Jonathan Gaskins took photos of the scene and Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies placed caution tape around the front of the home.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was scheduled to conduct a fire investigation the next morning.

Home Burns Again at Daybreak

At approximately 5:30 a.m. Friday, a second call came in to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office . The home was fully engulfed, with flames reportedly reaching 25 feet in the air.

Firefighters from the same departments returned, joined by volunteers from Huntingdon and Henry Fire and Rescue. Baptist Priority EMS was on scene to monitor responders for heat exposure.

The second fire leveled the structure. According to Gaskins, TBI is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

At the time of this writing, no official findings have been released.
