The following are reports from the McKenzie Police Department for the week of July 28 through August 3, 2025.
Driving on Suspended License
Chris M. Moses Jr., of McKenzie, was cited on August 3 for driving on a suspended license (2nd offense) after being stopped near Park Street and Allen Street. Patrolman Dustin McClure reported that Moses was operating a maroon 2004 Saturn Ion and admitted during the stop that he did not have a valid license. Dispatch confirmed that his license had been suspended out of Dickson County due to failure to pay fines and costs. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Susan C. Coplin, of McKenzie, was cited on August 1 for driving on a suspended license (1st offense) following a traffic stop on Highland Drive. Patrolman Dustin McClure reported that Coplin was also cited for expired registration and failure to show proof of insurance. After insurance was confirmed and the tow bill was paid, her vehicle was released.
Janessa K. Gilbert, of Huntingdon, was cited on July 28 for driving on a suspended license during a stop on Cedar Street. Patrolman Dustin McClure reported that Gilbert was driving a white Cadillac Escalade when he stopped her for the license violation. Gilbert told the officer she believed her license had been reinstated, but dispatch confirmed that her license was still suspended by Huntingdon City Court. The vehicle was left on scene to be retrieved by a licensed driver.
Drug Paraphernalia Citation
Christopher J. Stewart, of McKenzie, was cited on July 30 for possession of drug paraphernalia following a stop on University Drive. Investigator Steven Scott reported that Stewart consented to a vehicle search and admitted he had some marijuana shake inside. Officers located approximately one gram of marijuana, rolling papers, and a tray and bottle with marijuana residue. Stewart was issued a warning for a due care violation and cited for the drug offense.
Public Intoxication Arrest
Kenneth E. Whitson, of McKenzie, was arrested on July 30 for public intoxication after a call was made regarding a disturbance on Walnut Circle. Patrolman Daniel Pollard reported that Whitson was found to be heavily intoxicated, slurring his speech, and smelling of alcohol. He was taken into custody and booked into the Carroll County Jail.
Theft Investigation
Kendrick D. Wharton, of McKenzie, is the suspect in a theft case reported on July 30. Patrolman Daniel Pollard reported that Jeffery Jones, of McKenzie, accused Wharton of stealing his lawnmower and Stihl weedeater from his residence on McDonald Avenue. Jones was able to recover the lawnmower but not the weedeater. He initially declined to press charges but later changed his mind when the stolen property was not returned. Officers attempted to make contact with Wharton but were unsuccessful.
