Traffic on U.S. Highway 70 was brought to a standstill Tuesday morning after two vehicles collided head-on, claiming the lives of both drivers.

According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash occurred near 13110 U.S. 70.

A 2012 white Nissan Murano driven by 74-year-old Jimmy Edwards was headed westbound toward Jackson, while a 2015 red Dodge Challenger driven by 25-year-old Davin Parker was traveling eastbound.

The vehicles struck each other in the eastbound lane.

The first 911 call was received through OnStar at 6:18 a.m.

Emergency responders from Carroll County Fire Department Station 1, Carroll County Rescue Squad, Baptist EMS, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, TDOT, and Carroll County EMA responded to the scene.

Both Edwards and Parker were pronounced dead on arrival from their injuries.

No passengers were reported in either vehicle.

The highway reopened at approximately 8:30 a.m.
