Hollow Rock Fire Department (HRFD) received a $77,300 Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant from the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO), recently.
Fire Chief Curt Lumley was excited about the grant, which he said will be put to good use in service to the community.
HRFD is one of several departments in Carroll County and around the state to receive funding.
In January, the SMFO announced that they awarded $10 million to 245 volunteer fire departments across the state.
“Volunteer fire departments are the backbone of fire protection in our communities, and it is crucial that they have the equipment they need to safely complete their mission,” said Assistant Commissioner for Fire Prevention Mike Bell in a statement. “I encourage Tennessee’s volunteer fire departments to remember they can always reach out to me or the members of SFMO should they ever have any questions about the grant program or any of our work to support Tennessee’s volunteer fire departments.”
A press release from January said that “73% of Tennessee’s fire departments are staffed entirely by volunteers.”
