Bruceton Mayor Robert Keeton III said during a phone call with Carroll County Observer on Wednesday that Monday’s grand jury indictment of Bruceton Police Chief Richard Crossno does not affect his employment with the town.

Keeton said Crossno currently remains employed and that the charge will also not impact his law enforcement certification.

“He was suspended without pay for a week after the incident,” Keeton said, referring to disciplinary action taken shortly after the November altercation that led to the indictment.

“There will be no further disciplinary action taken at this time,” he added.

Keeton said the misdemeanor charge will likely qualify for diversion and eventual expungement.

Crossno was indicted by the Carroll County Grand Jury earlier this week in connection with an incident following Bruceton’s town meeting in November. No trial date has yet been announced.

As with all criminal cases, the charge is an accusation, and Crossno is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
