McEWEN, Tenn. — The Rockets went into their semifinal game against Houston County having beaten them in their last meeting in Clarksburg. However, Houston County avoided another loss to the Rockets, winning 76-46 in the District 12-A Semifinals Saturday at McEwen. The Fighting Irish’s Townes Epps put up a 36-point performance.

Clarksburg found itself in an early hole, trailing after a 23-9 first quarter in which Weston Vestal accounted for all nine Rocket points, scoring on four two-point baskets and an and-one. Vestal finished as Clarksburg’s leading scorer with 20 points. Reagan Halter added 10 points on three three-pointers, while Trae Cobb and Clay Glosson each contributed 6. Jake Miller chipped in 2, and Cayden Hollowell rounded out the scoring with 2.

Clarksburg showed some fight in the middle quarters, actually outscoring Houston County 16-15 in the third, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
The Rockets will face Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central’s Tigers in the consolation game Tuesday at 6 p.m. at McEwen.
