HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — CashSaver grocery store on East Main Street was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night, just minutes before closing time.
According to employees in the parking lot after the incident, a man entered the store around 8:57 p.m. with his face covered and carrying a gun. They said he made his way to the back office where night manager Tirrell Willis was counting the tills.
The suspect struck Willis with the gun, demanded and took money, and fled on foot.
The robber made off with cash from the registers and from the safe, according to witnesses.
Willis said he yelled for the other employees to get back and hide, and contacted store management, as well as authorities.
Though the suspect struck Willis multiple times with the handle of the gun, Willis declined medical transport.
No other employees were physically injured.
Surveillance footage of the incident was unavailable.
Employees described the suspect as a Black male of medium build, wearing a black ski mask, black and blue winter jacket, and a black fanny pack.
