NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Dolly Parton just became the first woman in history to have her name on a major U.S. commercial airport.
The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority voted unanimously on Friday to begin changing over the airport’s name in honor of the icon.
“We are grateful for the tremendous support and enthusiasm from our community and Dolly’s fans around the world,” the board said in a statement.
In the coming months, the Airport Authority will work on plans regarding the next steps and implementation.
“We look forward to sharing additional details as plans are finalized,” the statement said.
The board explained that a final name has not yet been determined.
“We are working closely with the appropriate parties to thoughtfully determine how Dolly Parton’s name and legacy will be incorporated.”
