BRUCETON, Tenn. — A new restaurant will soon open in Bruceton, and an ordinance change may pave the way for them to sell beer.

The board of Aldermen passed the first reading of Ordinance 26-04 at their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 12.
It amends Title 8, Chapter 2 of Bruceton’s municipal code, changing the distance requirements for establishments serving beer for on premise consumption.
Currently, a business must be located at least 2,000 feet from a school, church, or other public gathering place.
Should the Ordinance pass its second reading on October 20, that requirement will be lowered to 100 feet from a school or church and 200 feet from parks and playgrounds.
Mayor Robert T. Keeton explained that the owners of Laredo’s Mexican Restaurant in Camden and Huntingdon plan to open an establishment at the previous Lyon’s Den location, 30432 Broad St.
He said the menu will include a mix of Mexican and American cuisine.
“They’re seriously considering serving breakfast,” he added.
No open date has been announced, but owners hope to be open in December.
Mayor’s Comments
During his comments, Mayor Keeton also announced that Misty Nesbitt recently purchased the Jim’s Barbershop building, and plans to convert it into a laundromat facility.
The house next door to the barbershop building was included in the sale as well.
Keeton added that Nesbitt plans to demolish the house.
“That nightmare matter will be gone,” he said.
Mayor Keeton also explained that the Town of Bruceton and its Chief of Police, Rick Crossno, are named defendants in a federal lawsuit. The town’s municipal insurance provider has been advised of the matter.
Bruceton’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen will meet in a special-called meeting on Tuesday, October 20, at 5 p.m. for the second reading of Ordinance 26-04.
The town’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10 at 5 p.m. at City Hall.
