Press Release from Carroll County Fire Chief Jonathan Gaskins:
The Carroll County Fire Department continues to grow and organize its county-wide operations to better serve our citizens. As part of this effort, we have created three Battalion Chief positions to enhance leadership, coordination, and training across the county.
“The creation of these battalion chief roles is an important step in improving coordination and communication across stations,” said Lana Suite, Chairman of the Rural Fire Committee. “This structure is designed to support our volunteer firefighters in the field by making it easier to share resources, training, and leadership during critical moments of response.”
These positions are volunteer roles and come with important responsibilities, including overseeing designated sections of Carroll County, providing leadership and support on emergency scenes, and coordinating multi-department training exercises. This structure will allow for larger, more efficient training events and joint response scenarios involving multiple fire departments.
We are proud to announce the following appointments:
- Battalion Chief 606 – Philip Moore, from Station 19 (Westport), will be serving the East & Southeast Battalion (Station 4 Clarksburg, Station 19 Westport, and Station 3 Buena Vista), bringing an impressive 38 years of fire service experience.
- Battalion Chief 607 – Alan Woodall, from Station 17 (Terry), will be serving the West & Southwest Battalion (Station 21 Atwood, Station 11 McLemoresville, Station 17 Terry, Station 16 Trezevant, and Station 5 Cedar Grove), with 34 years of fire service experience.
- Battalion Chief 608 – Curt Taylor, from County Station 1 (Huntingdon), will be serving the North & Central Battalion (County Station 1 Huntingdon, Station 10 Macedonia, Station 8 Mixie, Station 2 Vale, and Station 15 Hollow Rock), bringing over 27 years of experience in Fire and Rescue services.
“These three new battalion chiefs represent the best of our countywide and volunteer fire service – dedicated leaders who have earned the trust and respect of their fellow firefighters and our community,” said County Mayor Joseph Butler. “This is a great step forward for the Carroll County Fire Department in serving our volunteers, and most importantly, in protecting the people of Carroll County.”
“Our goal is to continue building a strong and unified county-wide fire service,” said Fire Chief Jonathan Gaskins. “These Battalion Chiefs bring decades of experience and leadership that will help strengthen response efforts, improve communication, and ensure our firefighters have the guidance and support they need on every call. This is another positive step forward for Carroll County and the citizens we serve.”
Please join us in congratulating and thanking these individuals for their dedication, leadership, and continued service to the Carroll County Fire Department and the citizens we proudly serve.
