The Huntingdon Middle School Mustangs were impressive for the second week in a row as the Mustangs took care of business on the road with a 30-8 win over Dresden. The Mustangs controlled both sides of the football as they ran for 292 yards and held Dresden to 69 yards rushing and 2-11 passing for 30 yards.
Cohen Gray was the workhorse for the Mustangs for the second week in a row as he ran for 178 yards and scored twice. Gray now has 376 yards in his first two games of the season and has scored five touchdowns. Brylin Ford ran for 60 yards on two carries and a TD, Bryce Maddox ran for 26 yards and a TD, and Banks Butler ran for 27 yards and a TD.
It was Banks Butler who got the scoring started for the Mustangs on their opening drive of the game as he ran the ball in from 18-yards to cap an eight-play drive that covered 81 yards. Gray ran in the two-point conversion and the score stood at 8-0.
The Mustangs scored their second touchdown with 3:59 left in the first half after driving 10 plays and 53 yards and scoring on an eight-yard run by Gray. Gray also punched it in for the two-point conversion and a 16-0 lead.
The Mustangs then scored with one minute left in the half on a 47-yard run by Gray to cap a three-play drive. The conversion failed and the Mustangs took a 22-0 lead at the half.
The Mustangs scored their final points of the game after Dresden punted to start the second half and the Mustangs moved from their 23 to the end zone in seven plays and scored on a 55-yard run by Ford with 1:53 left in the third. Ford also scored on the two-point conversion for a 30-0 lead.
Dresden’s score came on the last play of the game as Kyler West ran 80-yards and Tristan Walters ran around the end for the two-point conversion and the final score of 30-8.
The Mustangs return to action this week at Paul Ward Stadium and Eric Swenson Field for homecoming. The Mustangs will take on Camden for a 6:30 kickoff.
