A fire on Dodd Street in Hollow Rock destroyed a family’s home and claimed their pet at around 3 a.m. Monday, November 17.

Homeowner Adalis Morales and all occupants made it out safely.
No injuries were reported among the family or firefighters.
According to Carroll County Fire Chief Jonathan Gaskins, the fire is believed to have started in the area of the home’s water heater, which was located in the crawl space.
The exact cause remains unofficial but is considered electrical in nature.
The home sustained heavy fire, smoke, and water damage and is considered a total loss.
A family dog, Princess, did not survive.
According to multiple accounts, a CSX train blocked all the crossings in Hollow Rock at the time the call went out.
The blockage prevented the Hollow Rock Fire Department from reaching the residence for approximately 20 minutes from just under one mile away.
Hollow Rock Fire Department, Bruceton Fire Department, CArroll County Fire District 1, Baptist EMS, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and others responded.
Family members living nearby helped Morales and others immediately after their escape.
The family is currently arranging temporary housing.
The home has been in the family for nearly 40 years.
