The next meeting of the Huntingdon TN Historical Society will be July 16, 2025 at 9 a.m. in Huntingdon City Hall’s conference room.
Mr. Jack Holland will be the speaker.

Chickasaw Indians first inhabited the area now known as McKenzie. In 1865, surveyors platted the land, which belonged to James Monroe McKenzie.

The town incorporated in 1869 under the name McKenzie Station, and was established at the intersection of two major railroads: the Nashville and Northwestern and the Louisville and Memphis lines.
McKenzie has had such a prominent history. President Grover Cleveland stopped in during his 1887 campaign and spent the night at the McKenzie Hotel. Other notable visitors to the area include rock and roll pioneer Carl Perkins.

One of McKenzie’s most distinguished natives, Harris T. Collier, went on to serve as head football coach at Tulane in 1899 and Georgia Tech in 1900.
Come and join us as we listen to Jack Holland as he shares the history of McKenzie with us and discover who the king was who has also visited McKenzie.
