A West Carroll Junior/Senior High School employee was arrested Wednesday, September 17, on charges of assault and coercion or persuasion of a witness.
According to affidavits filed by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, educational assistant Bernard Lykes allegedly struck a 15-year-old student during a lunchroom altercation, and later confronted the same student in the office while the teen was waiting to meet with an administrator.
Deputies wrote that Lykes told the student to “drop it or he would be suspended,” which led to the witness coercion charge.
Court records show Lykes’s bond was set at $10,000 for each charge. He was booked into the Carroll County Jail Wednesday evening and has since been released on bond.
The Carroll County Observer reached out to the West Carroll Special School District for comment but has not received a response as of this writing.
