
Huntingdon Mustangs head football coach, Eric Swenson reached a milestone Friday that places Swenson among the best coaches ever in the state of Tennessee and at Huntingdon High School. The Mustangs defeated Union City at Paul Ward Stadium Friday, October 31, 42-0 giving Swenson 170 wins at HHS.

The 170 wins surpasses Paul Ward who recorded 169 wins in 23 years at the helm of the Mustangs. Swenson’s record at Huntingdon as the Mustang enter the playoffs this Friday, stand at 170-52 in 18 years as head coach and combined with his 18-15 record in three years at Hickman County, gives Swenson a record of 188-67 for his coaching career. Ward’s record at Huntingdon was 169-62.
Swenson’s record for the playoffs at Huntingdon is 26-17 and 2-1 at Hickman County. Swenson was an assistant for the Mustangs for nine years prior to becoming head coach in 2008 and was part of three state championship games in 1999, 2003, and 2004. Swenson was head coach for the Mustangs when they reached the state championship game in 2012 losing to Gordonsville 21-20.
Ward’s teams won the old Volunteer Conference before the formation of the current playoff system, nine different seasons and won eight Bowl Game victories in his 23 years.
In Swenson’s 18 years the Mustangs have scored 8,732 points for a 37.6 average and his highest scoring team, totaled 685 points in 14 games. Ward’s teams scored 5,630 points for an average for an average of 23.7 points per game.
