Maj. General Tommy Baker, Tennessee’s Commissioner of Veterans’ Affairs, will be the program speaker at the July 7 meeting of the Clarksburg Ruritan Club.

Because of the program’s theme “Patriotism and Freedom” and Commissioner Baker being a Carroll Countian, the Club is extending an invitation to the public, especially veterans, to come out and hear the Commissioner. He has an extensive resume as a career National Guard officer retiring in 2020 after 41 years with the Tennessee National Guard.
Clarksburg Mayor Howell Wayne Todd, who is July’s program committee chair for the Club said, “General Baker seemed to be a natural for this program. He is a local guy with a distinguished military resume, and our theme of “Patriotism and Freedom” is a natural fit.”
Todd said the Club welcomes visitors for this meeting.
“We have a meal beginning at 6 p.m. that is catered by Patty’s, and our program begins around 6:30 p.m. We are usually back home by 7:15,” according to Todd.
The meeting is at the Carolyn Pritchard Rowland Community Room at City Hall.
For those who wish to have dinner, they should contact Barbara McClure, Club Secretary, at 731.695.7004 no later than July 1 so that Patty’s can plan accordingly.
For those who only wish to hear General Baker, there is no charge, and they should plan to arrive no later than 6:30 p.m.
