According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport driven by 58-year-old Tammy Grim of Hollow Rock was traveling east when it collided with two westbound semis — a 2020 Freightliner driven by 35-year-old Codie Rogers and a Kenworth W90 driven by 31-year-old William Watson.
Witnesses on scene recalled that Grim’s Ford Explorer veered into the westbound lane, and struck the flatbed trailer of Rogers’ Freightliner.
The impact broke a strap and sent three aluminum ingots into the roadway.
Grim’s vehicle returned briefly to the eastbound lane before crossing over again, where it collided head-on with the Kenworth.
The accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m.
Troopers confirmed that Grim died as a result of the crash.
Rogers was not injured, while Watson sustained injuries.
Emergency crews from multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Carroll County Rescue Squad, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Carroll County EMA, Huntingdon Fire Department, Huntingdon Police Department, Carroll County Fire Department, Hollow Rock Fire Department, Carroll County Hazmat, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Baptist EMS.
Highway 70 was closed from the time the accident took place until 6 p.m.
The semis transporting aluminum ingots were reportedly destined for Gränges.
