MCLEMORESVILLE – West Carroll Primary (WCP) School conducted a full evacuation drill this week, preparing students and staff to exit campus quickly in the event of an intruder or other emergency. The exercise supports WCSSD’s focus on safety and readiness across all campuses.

The drill, coordinated with local law enforcement and emergency responders, included safely relocating students to a nearby area church—designated as the school’s emergency evacuation site. Teachers, administrators, and students practiced the step-by-step procedures for leaving the building, traveling in groups, and accounting for students once they arrived at the church.

“Our goal is to make sure everyone knows exactly what to do in the event of a real emergency,” said Principal Jackie Wester. “These drills help reduce panic, reinforce communication, and ensure a safe and organized response.”
Parents are encouraged to talk with their children about the importance of being prepared. The school emphasized that while such situations are unlikely, readiness is key.
WCP officials expressed appreciation to local churches and first responders for their cooperation and support in making the drill a success.
School leaders plan to conduct similar safety exercises throughout the year.
