HOLLOW ROCK, Tenn. — Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School officials sent a letter to parents on Thursday, February 24, informing them that the district will begin providing mandatory firearm safety instruction as required under Tennessee Code Ann. § 49-6-1016.
The law requires all Tennessee public schools and charter schools to deliver annual, age-appropriate firearm safety lessons beginning in the 2025–2026 school year, starting at the earliest appropriate grade and continuing through grade 12.
The letter states that the curriculum was developed in collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Education, the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. It focuses on safe storage, school safety, and teaching students to never touch a found firearm and to immediately notify an adult.
The letter assured parents that no live ammunition or firearms will be used during instruction, and that the lessons will remain neutral on political topics such as gun rights, gun violence, or the Second Amendment. Instruction may be delivered through classroom lessons, video presentations, or state-approved online resources.
Parents with questions are encouraged to contact Central High School at (731) 418-4189.
