BRUCETON, Tenn. — Bruceton’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the purchase of a new commercial mower and to solicit bids for gutter repairs at the fire station during their meeting on Tuesday, March 10.

The board unanimously voted to purchase a Bad Boy mower with a six-foot deck and Kawasaki 38 horsepower engine for approximately $11,710. The mower will replace the town’s oldest unit, which needs significant repairs.

“We’re going to have to put a bunch of money in the oldest mower,” Mayor Robert T. Keeton, III said.

He noted issues with the parking brake and other mechanical problems.

The town plans to sell the old mower on govdeals.com, with proceeds going back into the maintenance budget.

The board also approved soliciting bids to repair or replace gutters at the fire station. Ice damage from the winter storm in late January caused the gutters to come loose.

“Whoever does it needs to come up with something so this won’t happen again,” said Alderman James Butler.

He suggested that gutter guards might prevent future problems.

In other business, Keeton announced the town received the replacement service truck approved at a special-called meeting in February. The truck, which replaces the F-250 totaled in the February 9 work zone crash, is currently having strobe lights and impact bars installed.

The mayor also reported that OSHA inspected the town in late February with no deficiencies found.

Alderman Jack Blocker commended maintenance supervisor Andy Baker on the good inspection.

“Good management, good work, and good attention to detail,” he said.

Keeton announced the town has hired a new police officer. Judd Glisson, who is originally from Corinth, Mississippi, is scheduled to start March 23.

Bruceton’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 at 5 p.m.
