You can add Huck’s Convenience Store to the list of beer sellers in Huntingdon.

The town’s Beer Board unanimously approved a retail beer permit for the store, located at 23 Veterans Drive North, with no discussion at all Tuesday evening, July 28.

The application was filed by Martin & Bayley, Inc., which owns the store, and covers off-premise beer sales only.

When Huck’s originally opened, its proximity to Huntingdon Church of Christ kept the store from qualifying for a beer permit under the town’s 300-foot distance requirement from churches and schools. That changed in December, when the Town Council gave final approval to an ordinance eliminating the distance requirement for properties in the town’s B-1 and B-2 business districts. The council passed the first reading of the change at its November 25 meeting, and gave it final approval in December.

Ahead of Tuesday’s vote, the application cleared two other required reviews. The Huntingdon Police Department verified the applicant’s information on July 16, and the town’s Codes Enforcement Official signed off on July 22, confirming the premises meets zoning and separation requirements under Section 8-211 of the Huntingdon Municipal Code.

Huck’s becomes the latest addition to Huntingdon’s list of beer retailers, following CashSaver’s approval earlier this year under the same ordinance change.
