HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — A Carroll County grand jury has indicted Rachel Sawyers, wife of newly-elected Sheriff Eric Sawyers, on two felony counts stemming from her alleged handling of funds belonging to the Clarksburg School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).
The indictment was filed Monday, September 14 in Carroll County Circuit Court.
She is charged with Theft of Property, in violation of T.C.A. § 39-14-103(a), for “knowingly or intentionally obtaining or exercising control over more than $1,000 but less than $2,500 in cash belonging to the Clarksburg PTO without the organization’s consent, with intent to deprive the PTO of the funds.”
She is also charged with Fraudulent Use of a Debit Card, in violation of T.C.A. § 39-14-118(b)(4), for allegedly using a PTO-issued debit card, in an amount over $1,000 but under $2,500, without authorization.
Both counts are Class E felonies. The alleged conduct is said to have occurred between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025.

Carroll County Observer recently learned that the wife of newly-elected Sheriff, Eric Sawyers was arrested just after 3 p.m. on Monday, September 14.
Rachel Sawyers was booked into Carroll County jail on one count of Theft of Property over $1,000 and Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card.
Her bond was set at $2,000.

How embarrassing for her husband! I feel horrible for him! Brand new sheriff and his wife does this! A thief is a thief! She will continue to be a thief! There’s an ole saying, a leopard never changes its spots! You can shave it down bald and the spots will always come back!
