CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn. — Shingles, lumber, nails, and other building materials lay scattered around what was left of a 2000 Freightliner flatbed delivery truck when first responders arrived on the scene of a one-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon, July 7. Its driver was trapped inside.

According to a preliminary report by Tennessee Highway Patrol, 45-year-old Eric Cary of Paris was driving north along State Route 22 between Clarksburg and the Henderson County line when his Lowe’s delivery truck exited the roadway on the left side and struck a standing tree. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The impact crunched the cab of the truck, trapping Cary. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the report.
Carroll County Rescue Squad used the jaws of life to cut open an escape.
Baptist EMS took Cary to Baptist Hospital for evaluation.

The southbound side of SR-22 was reduced to one lane for several hours while officials awaited a wrecker service to remove the truck.
No charges have been filed, according to the report.
