Who will win the election?

Carroll County voters head to the polls today, Thursday, August 6, to decide just that.

Voters will weigh in on a full slate of county offices and state and federal primaries.

The most contested race on the local ballot is the Carroll County Sheriff’s seat, where three candidates are vying for the position: Republican Eric W. Sawyers and independents Michael A. Smith and Ryan White.

Other county offices on the ballot include County Mayor, with Joseph G. Butler running unopposed; Road Supervisor, with Ronnie Wade running as an independent; Circuit Court Clerk, with Sarah Bradberry running unopposed; County Clerk, with Darlene Kirk; County Trustee, with Paula Bolen; Register of Deeds, with Natalie McCullough Porter; and Assessor of Property, with John Austin running unopposed.

All nine county commission districts are on the ballot, with competitive races in several districts featuring a mix of Republican nominees and independent candidates.

School board seats are also being decided across multiple special school districts, including Carroll County, Hollow Rock-Bruceton, Huntingdon, McKenzie, South Carroll, and West Carroll special school districts.

The City of Clarksburg’s municipal election is today as well, with races for Mayor between Jeff Reed and Howell Wayne Todd, and two Alderman seats.

On the state and federal side, Carroll County voters participated in Republican primaries for Governor — Marsha Blackburn, Monty Fritts, and John Rose — U.S. Senate with Bill Hagerty, U.S. Congressional District 8 with David Kustoff, Tennessee House District 76 with Tandy Darby, and Tennessee House District 79 with Brock Martin.

Several judicial retention questions are also on the ballot.

Results will be published here as they become available tonight.
