Three Huntingdon council members took the oath of office Thursday morning at Huntingdon City Hall, two days after winning re-election in Tuesday’s election.
Kelly Eubanks, Andrew Maddox, and John Sanders were sworn in by Mayor Chad Edwards.
The three ran unopposed for the three open council seats, with Eubanks receiving 800 votes, Maddox 774, and Sanders 751, according to unofficial results from the Carroll County Election Commission.
Before giving the oath, Edwards thanked the three for stepping up to serve. He said a state official had told him some cities didn’t have anyone on the ballot running for office.
“We don’t get to be heroes much,” Edwards said. “We’re all public servants. That’s what we are. I think our council does well at that.”
Edwards said the council stays united even through disagreements.
“We come back around because this town is like a family,” he said. “It’s not like any other town.”
In the oath, each council member swore to support the constitutions and laws of the United States and Tennessee, observe the town’s charter and code of ordinances, and faithfully carry out the duties of council member.
