There is now a vacancy in Carroll County’s 7th District after Commissioner Manuel Crossno tendered his resignation, effective at the close of August 11’s Commission Meeting.

“It’s been an honor for me to serve our county,” Crossno said in a letter he turned in to Mayor Joseph Butler last week.

Butler read the letter aloud during the meeting, in which Crossno cited health reasons for stepping down.

“My walking has been a hindrance for the last few years,” Crossno wrote. “I reckon there comes a time that we all will see and feel the aging process as we get older, and I for sure now fit into that time in my life.”

The letter continued, “I feel it’s my time to take a step back, to resign and let someone else be brought in to fill one of the two seats for District 7.”

Crossno thanked the residents of District 7 for electing him, the mayor, and fellow commissioners for their cooperation.

“I don’t regret a minute of my time that I’ve given to our county commission,” he wrote.

Butler called Crossno “the best of us” and presented him with a plaque in recognition of his more-than 13 years of service.

“We sincerely appreciate you,” Butler said.

The County is now seeking potential candidates for Crossno’s seat, which will be filled at the September County Commission meeting.

Anyone who resides in District 7 and is interested in becoming a commissioner must express written interest to either Mayor Butler, one of the County Commissioners, or during September’s meeting when the floor is opened for nominations.
