HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — It’s just past 3 a.m. and according to two Last Annual Vol State racers, about 20 participants have made their way through Huntingdon.
Sarah and Stephanie, from Illinois and Florida respectively, were taking a break in front of West Tennessee Public Utility District’s office on Paris Street.
The pair said the overnight storm made for a rough stretch, with lightning proving more unnerving than the rain itself. Both runners said they took refuge at Gleason Fire Station during part of the storm but pushed on through the rest of it.
“It’s been quite the adventures so far in a great way,” Stephanie said.
For Sarah, this is her first Vol State attempt. She said the challenge and the journey is what drew her to it.
Despite the fatigue, the two said they planned to keep moving toward Parker’s Crossroads, with hopes of reaching the cluster of hotels there before stopping to rest.
