MCKENZIE, Tenn. — A Carroll County man was killed Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 79, according to a preliminary report released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).
Steven Gooch, 56, was riding a bicycle eastbound across Hwy 79 when he was hit by a 2010 Ford traveling northbound on the highway. Gooch suffered fatal injuries in the collision.
The driver of the vehicle, Alec Meddings, 33, of McKenzie was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time, according to the report.

This Geneva Tesneair this is AND always will be My guardian angel because he was My friend and boyfriend we moved to McKenzie TN from Huntington TN I was living in a motel right across from the jail in Huntingdon TN i met Steven Gooch through someone else and ME and Steven started talking and he would ride his electric bike from Yuma TN to come see ME which at the time I didn’t know that he was riding a long distance to Walmart to charge his bike and then he ride his electric bike to come see ME and this past Easter Steven and I went to his step Mom’s house way out in the courty AND when I had Saw how far he had rode his electric bike I now know and realized how dedicated Steven Gooch cared about ME and loved ME to have road all the way to see ME and Steven was a wonderful man and person he was very special to ME and I was so proud of him the next door neighbor came over to check on ME and he told ME I was taking it better than he thought I would be AND I explained to the neighbor that I don’t cry everyone that I’m emotional less around others I get off to myself and I talk to God I not mad at God I really don’t understand BUT I’m not mad I just mad at myself for not going with him THAT day and taking Care of Steven now there’s no Steven and Steven was My whole wide world and now he’s gone i feel like bringing Steven to McKenzie was a bad decision I took Steven away from his home town and now he’s dead Steven was a very special man he has done a lot of wonderful things for ME and Steven never ever gave up on ME when I first met Steven I would sit around AND cry only in front of him and he sit on The side of the bed AND put his arm around ME and Steven tell Me to think positive and that everything would be all right not to worry I Saw Charlie Brown and Snoopy on utub and they both were sitting down and there was a little bubble 💭💬 AND Charlie Brown said that we don’t cross each other’s paths by mistake or by chance that we cross each other’s paths cause God meant for US to be there for a reason to teach Us to learn from each other and to love and to be loved and there’s no other place I would rather be is with Steven Ray Gooch because without him I’m still lost RIP my
Mr Meddings was not physically injured. I am sure he will have to deal with the mental trauma. Prayers for everyone in this incident.
