Nora Pauline (Polly) Wherry Mitchell, a longtime resident of Bruceton, TN passed away October 30, peacefully after 105 years of a full and blessed life.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 8, at 12:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Bruceton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Bruceton Funeral Home Saturday from 11:00 A.M. till 12:00 P.M. with burial to follow in Prospect Cemetery.
Polly was born in Only, TN on January 20, 1920, to John W. Wherry and Sarah Pinkerton Wherry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wade Wherry, Hollis Wherry, Lloyd Wherry, sisters Catherine Weatherspoon, Lillian Bruce, Berneice Rochelle, Ruth Laquiere, husband John (Jack) Mitchell in 1980, son James L. Mitchell in 1998, great-grandson David Lane Mitchell in 2000, and son John G. Mitchell in 2020.
She is survived by daughters Theresa Mitchell Pollack of North Canton, OH and Cecilia Mitchell Nye of Kingston, TN, daughter-in-law Mary Mitchell of Nashville, TN , son-in-law Al Pollack of North Canton, OH, grandchildren Meredith (Mark) Nelson of Beaufort, SC, Mark (Amy) Mitchell of Franklin, TN, Elizabeth (Matt Mendelsohn) Mitchell of Arlington, VA, Rob (Beth) Nye of Knoxville, TN, and Ben (Kelly) Nye of Nashville, TN, great-grandchildren Evan Mitchell, Kate Mitchell, Alex Mendelsohn, Jacob Mendelsohn, Jacob Nye, Hannah Nye, Zoey Nye, and Brea Nye. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Polly graduated from Hickman County High School Centerville, TN in 1938 and attended Draughn’s Business school in Nashville, TN. She moved to Bruceton in the early 1940’s where she met and married Jack Mitchell in 1941 and lived there her adult life. She was most proud of the family that they had together and of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Polly was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Camden, TN. She was a skilled and talented seamstress, an accomplished quilter having won a number of blue ribbons, and avid gardener. She was an active member of Bruceton’s Senior Citizen Club and of Ace’s Pitch Club. She will be remembered as always being the life of all gatherings and parties.
Polly resided at Bruceton Life Care Center in recent years and was loved and cared by the staff there.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Life Care Center of Bruceton-Hollow Rock for their excellent and compassionate care.
